Some days I find the thin skin
of fellow humans a burden I do not wish to experience,
let alone bear.
Actually, I refuse to bear that burden
as it is one I am not designed to carry.
The petty insouciance is a distraction
from the utter beauty of our universe,
and the beauty of ourselves.
All of creation cries out ‘look at me’
with its splendid displays
of color, scent and texture,
clamoring to reveal mysteries and glories.
Meanwhile (some) humans trounce one another
with gleeful delight
administering blow after blow
of egotistical word vomit.
How I long to gently shake humanity
by the shoulders and turn it to the mirror
and say, “Look at the splendor of your soul!”
We are one breath away from continued anxiety and strife.
OR, we are one breath away from peace,
and love without measure.
Choose this day what and whom you shall serve.
